And it's so special that I needed to share it one more time. If you've lived in Milton thru the 40's and on and on THEN you will recognize most of th names mentioned.
This is the Story of Bobby Smith, Dot Lewis (Mike & Sams Mother), and a Pound Cake Recipe. We appreciate the Family of Bobby Jean Smith for sharing this at her service... Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Lewis was a long time client of Bobby Smith's Beauty Shop in Bagdad. Dot would come in on a regular basis and almost always brought Mrs. Bobby a slice of homemade Pound Cake. Every single visit, Bobby would beg Dot for the recipe, but Dot would always reply with, "Oh no, Bobby, I can't do that. This is a secret family recipe passed down from my Mother (Mrs. Lizzie Hoodless-Wolfe) and Aunt (Hubert Hoodless)." Bobby promised to not share the recipe, but the reply was always the same. Then one day Mrs. Dot came in for her regular appointment and traded the beloved recipe for her hair service that day. Bobby was overjoyed! For over 60 years now, that Pound Cake has been a staple in Bobby's Family. Every holiday, birthday, family reunion, or sometimes just because, the cake was present and her family and friends have enjoyed every last bite, many times licking the crumbs off the plate. Today, we celebrate Bobby Smith and all the joy she brought to our lives. We want to share this recipe with you in hopes that you will also make a delicious desert to share with those you love. And of course we have to give credit where it is due, to Mrs. Dot Lewis for sharing it and to Mrs. Lizzie Hoodless-Wolfe and Mrs. Hubert Hoodless for passing it down. Rest assured the Lewis Family gave their blessing to share the origination of this recipe. Moral of the story, don't give up, just keep asking nicely and working for what you want.
